Illinois Bayou kayaking
5/16/2010
One of my favorite little kayak runs is in the Middle Fork of the Illinois Bayou. The short 2 mile stretch from Snow Creek to the confluence with the East Fork is fun and easy to shuttle. The shuttle is an easy walk. The river feels remote even though a dirt road follows it the entire way. I got there before sunrise and was on the river at first light. Level was 9.0 feet on USGS gauge. This is a good level. The water is always muddy when this creek is up unfortunately.
